Sudanese sheep in Gulf markets: why are they in demand?

About Sudanese sheep

A long-standing trade

Sudan is among the region's largest exporters of live livestock, and Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states are major destinations for Sudanese sheep, especially during Hajj and Eid al-Adha.

Why the demand?

  • Raised on open range: desert sheep grow up grazing and walking long distances.
  • Built for heat: a short hair coat and long legs suit a hot climate.
  • Well-known types: such as Hamari and Kabashi, which many buyers ask for by name.

What buyers look for today

  1. Clear information: live weight, when it was measured, and approximate age.
  2. Real photos of the actual batch.
  3. A clear price in a known currency and per a defined unit (e.g. per head).
  4. Direct contact before committing to any deal.

That is how MIDRAR lists its batches: confirmed information only, approved prices, and quotation requests without registration.

Accepting inquiries from importers does not mean export services and licences are in place today; we tell every inquirer what can actually be done.

For quantities: wholesale and supply.
