Caring for a sheep before Eid: water, feed, rest and transport
If you collect your sheep a few days before Eid, these are the basics of looking after it until the day.

Water and shade first
- Provide clean water at all times, especially in the heat.
- Keep the sheep in a shaded, well-ventilated place out of direct sun.
Feed
- Offer feed the sheep is used to, such as hay or dried alfalfa, and ask the seller what it has been eating.
- Avoid sudden changes in feed or large amounts of grain at once, which can upset digestion.
Rest and less stress
- Give it enough space and dry ground.
- Keep noise and handling to a minimum; don't chase or move it around unnecessarily.
Transport
- Use a suitable vehicle that prevents slipping and falling, with good ventilation.
- Move the sheep in the cooler hours of the day where possible.
- Don't tie it in a way that hurts it, and avoid crowding animals into a small space.
When to call a vet
If you notice severe lethargy, refusal to eat, lameness or difficulty breathing, consult a vet — the animal's soundness is a condition of the sacrifice.
